South Wales Evening Post, February 2010
A SWANSEA actor has been chosen to be in the first amateur production of Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s smash-hit musical, Cats.
And 21-year-old Gareth Mitchell is no stranger to Cats, as he started out in Swansea’s Class Act Theatre School (Cats).
Now he is in the final year of a musical theatre degree at The Arts Educational Schools in Essex, of which Sir Andrew is patron,
The production ran for six nights last week, and was designed as a dynamic showcase for students to perform in front of dozens of the West End’s leading theatrical agents.
The former Birchgrove Comprehensive pupil said: “The theatre school in Swansea gave me an opportunity to perform in genuinely high-quality productions. I was lucky to be given some lovely roles and the tuition from Jill Williams was the best I could have hoped for.”
Ms Williams added: “Gareth was singing before he was walking. Even when he was a choirboy at Llansamlet Church in Swansea he was dreaming of a career in musical theatre. He’s been a wonderful student and I wish him all the best.”
